look up at the sky

The sky, like many other things in life, is a constant I often overlooked. Rainbows excited me, as they felt unique. The rain had the power to change my mood, change my energy. But I somehow forgot about the sun and clouds. They were always there, always "the same," a constant. I can't recall how, from, or when I heard this, but one day my perspective changed. "Every day, make it a goal and look up at the sky." Try to do it twice: morning and night, though once will suffice.
I used to dread being awake when it was still dark. Until I learned to appreciate the sun in the sky, greeting me as it rose. And my love for sunrises began. I always thought sunsets were pretty, but did not pay them as much attention as they deserved, until I did. In the past decade I moved away from home for the first time to another state. I moved to attend law school, once again, to another state. I am not the biggest fan of change, but really who is? It was with these changes that I learned to appreciate the constant(s) in my life, a key one being: the sky.
This sea of blue, that paints itself with pastels or neon watercolor strokes at different stages of each day constantly brings a smile to my face. I used to think nothing could beat watching the sunrise at home when I was driving to school growing up, or that nothing could beat watching the sunset from the balcony in my childhood bedroom. Until I watched the sunset from the top floor of my apartment building and I felt like I was experiencing a completely new kind of sunset. Or when I watched the sunrise from the flying airplane's window as I was moving to a new "home" and I felt like I was part of it all. Watching the sun rise and set when I head to and leave from school may seem like a small part of my day, but it fills me with unimaginable joy. And if anything, it is appreciating the sky that makes me feel the most at home.
The sky is truly a piece of art we should all enjoy, at least once every day. So, my main point of it all for you today is to don't waste time overlooking it like me, and starting today: look up at the sky.
